Everyone Says I Love You

November 30, 2007 · 1 Comment

The song ‘Enjoy yourself’ from Woody Allen’s wonderful entertainer ‘Everyone Says I Love You’  (Woody Allen, Julia Roberts, Drew B.more, Ed Norton, Alan Alda, Goldie Hawn. Talk of a star-studded movie !) ! The movie, though not Woody Allen’s best, is extremely entertaining nevertheless !

Total YouTube gratefulness happening..

Less is more ?

November 26, 2007 · 5 Comments

Sometimes it makes you wonder how some people who have so very little have a huge cheer on their faces. One would think that the daily expression of unmet basic needs is dismay, not cheer.

He lives in one those many shacks that line the pavements near Marina beach. All that there is for a home is the cot he is sitting on and the small shack behind. And what was he writing ? Homework apparently ! Even in the comfort of a secure home, I can’t remember a day when I had a smile on my face when I was doing my homework.

I do wish I were a little less clinical about things, but what I feel here is not compassion. It is wonder & puzzlement than anything else. Despite being very comfortably situated in life, nothing I see/have/do is fast enough, nice enough , efficient enough, interesting enough – it is not anything enough. It is not even in the same league as enough. The more one has, the less one has ?

Pottramarai Kulam, Madurai

November 13, 2007 · 8 Comments

My favorite spot in the Meenakshi Amman Temple, Madurai is the Pottramarai Kulam (Pottramarai : Golden Lotus; Kulam: Pond) and the long corridors that surround it. The walls and ceiling of these corridors have painted murals and historical info about the temple on them.

With the temple authorities maintaining the pond water (and temple in general) clean lately, it is quite a pleasure to spend an early morning sitting by the tank, doing absolutely nothing at all.. :)

Indian values, indeed !

November 1, 2007 · 1 Comment

Thanks to the age of free speech, things like this continue to happen. And what is more disheartening is that there is a sizeable population EVEN amongst filmbuffs that supports this.

We’ll do all that it takes to stall the shooting of ‘Water’ in Varanasi. And then a Deepa Mehta would have to go all the way to SriLanka to shoot the movie. And then when it gets nominated for the Oscars- Boom! - the Indian fraternity is back to welcome it with arms wide open in the PVRs of the country. That is who we are.

So much for democracy. Meritocracy suffers.
